StarForce Technologies is a leading vendor of copy protection, licensing and code obfuscation solutions against software and electronic documents copying, cracking and illegal distribution.
The Russia-based company has compiled a survey of information security experts which, like StarForce, are dedicated to providing vital information security solutions.
The data for the survey has been sourced from an online LinkedIn group: the Information Security Community.
The discussion which led to the StarForce survey was started by one of the group's members who asked: "Can you use one word to describe the most important information security solution in your arsenal (existing or upcoming)?"
The question prompted nearly 2500 responses from members of the LinkedIn Information Security Community group. Many answers are similar which enabled them to be collated together.
The following two graphs indicate clearly the preferences of the IS experts.

Some responses were only mentioned once; these are not included in Graph 1.
In Graph 2, all individual responses with a similar theme have been linked into nine separate 'logical' groups which take into account all of the information and suggestions provided during the survey.

Conclusion
Factors like 'education', 'awareness', 'knowledge' and 'experience' are regarded as the most important solutions to prevent breaches of security. 'Technical measures' and the 'human factor' are also considered to be important, whereas 'monitoring', 'user identification' and 'branch standards' are less of a priority among those who responded.
Commenting on the survey results, StarForce Marketing Director Denis Gasilin said: "It's evident that the professionalism and competency of staff - epitomised by their training, technical expertise, qualifications and overall capabilities - are essential factors that are expected of IS experts worldwide.
"People need to be aware of threats to be in the best position to take the appropriate steps to overcome them effectively. While technical factors such as safe system architecture and security measures are important, we believe it is a priority that all IS specialists should be trained to be technically competent to handle these threats.
"Reducing the risks by taking appropriate preventive measures is extremely important. Data provided by surveys like this enable us to track human tendencies and attitudes towards achieving higher levels of information security."
