StarForce Adds Watermarks and Digital Fingerprints for Video Protection
StarForce Technologies, the leader in development of solutions to protect digital information against leakage and unauthorized distribution, announces the implementation of watermark technology in StarForce Audio/Video. This improvement helps to provide additional protection against piracy.
This StarForce product provides robust copy protection for video files, which is based on binding the protected content to the unique parameters of a computer or an optical disc. Also, StarForce Audio/Video has a mechanism to prevent the use of special software to capture video from the screen. But besides program grabbers there are special hardware boards for video capture and it is possible to record video from the screen with a regular camera. Watermarks and digital fingerprints are designed to protect publishers and authors from uncontrolled copying of their intellectual property, and in case of violations, the fingerprint will help to detect the source of the leak to submit the case to the police.
A digital fingerprint is a unique identifier of a user who works with protected files. StarForce Audio/Video uses an activated serial number as a fingerprint. This serial number is displayed in the screen according to the settings selected by the publisher. A publisher can also use text and pictures as watermarks.
At the moment the watermark technology is supported by both SFContent.com, an online service to protect content, and Protection Studio, a special application to perform protection locally. A digital fingerprint can be used only with online activation and PC binding. If you are going to use CD and DVD for distribution and as a binding object, only text and pictures are available to you as a watermark.
This feature is implemented under the new update of StarForce Protection System 2016.4. Also, the following changes are realized:
- Tamper resistance of StarForce Audio/Video Player is improved.
- The list of grabbers is extended (new versions of the blacklisted software are added to the list as well).
- The list of editable parameters for setting watermarks through Protection Studio is increased.
Detailed information is available for clients on the corporate site in the Members zone and in the Update section of Protection Studio.
